Gustaaf Boshoff - Head Chef

As head chef of Smoke Cuisine, Gustaaf Boshoff brings to the table the benefit of extensive international experience combined with an innate passion for and curiosity about food and flavours.

Gustaaf's love for cooking started early when, as a young child, he could often be found perched on a stool in front of the stove in the family kitchen – stirring pots, baking or preparing seafood for the braai. He soon showed he had the necessary ingredients to turn his taste for cooking into a successful career in the kitchen.

While completing his studies at the Institute of Culinary Arts in Stellenbosch he was selected to assist renowned BBC Food celebrity chef, Alan Coxon, in his South African TV series "Coxon's Sporting Feast".

Upon graduating, Gustaaf accepted a position at Michelin starred restaurant, Bohemia, in Jersey, UK - the first choice for fine dining on the Isle. Here he developed a versatile repertoire of both sophisticated and casual dining.

The following year he set out across the English Channel to St Tropez where he was head-hunted to cook aboard luxury yachts, a position that eventually took him to Europe, South East Asia, the Americas, Pacific Islands, Australasia and the Middle East.

During the course of his culinary voyage, Gustaaf expanded his cooking repertoire to include Creole, West Indian, Thai, Japanese, Spanish and French Mediterranean cuisine.

Gustaaf now returns to the Cape Winelands where he is excited to showcase his international flair and skills at Smoke Cuisine.
